Diaspora-Based Rwandan Civil Society Denounces Growing Disappearances and Illegal Arrests of Rwandans

For months, the international press and NGOs such as Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Amnesty International have denounced growing cases of unexplained disappearances and unjustified arrests in Rwanda.

On this day of 30th August, on which we celebrate the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, we would like to draw particular attention to these violent and abhorrent practices which are currently occurring in Rwanda.

Recently the world discovered with horror and awe shocking images of dozens of dead bodies, apparently tortured and bound, floating along Lake Rweru bordering Rwanda and Burundi. One can imagine the pain and horror suffered by these unfortunate victims before they died.
